Parents as Teachers (PAT) Parent Educator – School of the Osage

Job Summary:

The Parents as Teachers (PAT) Parent Educator delivers parent education services to families with children from birth to five years old. This role includes home visits, developmental screenings, group meetings, and referrals to community resources, supporting families in preparing children for school success.

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must meet at least one of the following:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Early Childhood, Elementary Education, Social Work, Health, Psychology, or related fields, as outlined in the Early Childhood Development Act (ECDA).
  
  
• Associate’s degree or two-year certificate in Early Childhood Development or a related field, with experience working with young children and families.
  
  
• Sixty (60) college credit hours and two years of experience in an approved early childhood program.
  
  
• Five (5) years of experience in an approved early childhood program with a high school diploma or equivalent.

Upon hiring, candidates must complete Parents as Teachers Foundational Curriculum 1 (Prenatal to Three) and Foundational Curriculum 2 (Three to Kindergarten Entry) training.

Key Responsibilities:

 

• Plan and conduct personal home visits using the PAT curriculum, covering child development, parent-child interaction, and family well-being.
  
  
• Administer developmental screenings and provide guidance based on results.
  
  
• Organize and lead parent/guardian group connections aligned with PAT program standards.
  
  
• Refer families to community agencies for additional resources and support.
  
  
• Maintain accurate records of home visits, screenings, and referrals.
  
  
• Collaborate with school staff and community organizations to support preschool readiness and transition to school.
  
  
• Engage in ongoing professional development and training sessions.

• Competence in technology use, including district software and online resources.
  
  
• Ability to solve problems, adapt instruction, and assess family needs

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

• Home-based visits, community outreach, and school collaborations.
  
  
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, move freely in a variety of settings, and manage materials for screenings.
  
  
• Participation in staff meetings, professional development, and reflective supervision

Terms of Employment:

• Contract Length: 9 months (Assigned work days and hours TBD).
  
  
• Compensation: Based on education and experience.
