Candidate Profile
Experience: Repair and preventative maintenance of heavy equipment.
Repair and preventative maintenance of school buses and other motor vehicles preferred.
Degrees required or preferred: High School diploma; additional mechanic experience and qualifications needed.

- Plan and implement a program of scheduled preventative maintenance of the district bus fleet.
- Perform mechanical repairs on buses to include major overhauls if directed, as necessary.
- Make emergency service calls for stranded buses or other district equipment.
- Make recommendations to the supervisor for ordering and stocking all necessary repair parts and supplies.
- Maintain the shop area in a clean, orderly and safe condition.
- Assist in the service and repair of other district motor vehicles and equipment as needed.
- Maintain, repair, and inspect tires and rims, and maintain records of district vehicles.
- Perform complete safety inspections as required.
- Estimate time, material, and equipment needed for assigned jobs.
- Operate school vehicles.
- Replace and adjust brakes, belts, and hoses.
- Assist in the service and repair of school vehicles as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of:
- Practices, methods, equipment, tools, and materials used in the repair and adjustment of school buses and other motorized vehicles and equipment including gasoline and diesel-powered equipment and systems.
- Occupational hazard and standard safety practices necessary in the areas of maintenance and mechanical repair work.
Ability to:
- Work cooperatively with others.
- Read, interpret, understand, and apply technical manuals, schematics, diagrams, specifications, and parts catalog.
- Work independently with minimal supervision.
- Exercise good judgment, flexibility, creativity, and sensitivity in response to changing situations and in the course of work.

The individual who holds this position is required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls and talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to reach, climb, bend squat, stoop and kneel. The employee continuously uses had strength to grasp and use tools and climb ladders. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds. Occasionally the employee will lift or move up to 90 pounds. The employee will frequently push or pull items such as desks, tables, bleachers and scrubbing machines. Specific vision requirements include close and peripheral vision and depth perception.

Salary: Commensurate based on experience.
