Paraprofessional (Aide)

Performance Expectations:

1. Completed at least 60 credit hours of study at an institution of higher education; or
2. Obtained an associate’s (or higher) degree
3. Work on the playground and be responsible for the children’s health, safety and happiness during morning, lunchtime and afternoon play sessions.
4. Knowledge of basic computer skills (typing, Word).
5. Paraprofessionals with a baccalaureate degree and an appropriate teaching certificate and/or training may initiate instruction and work independently.
6. Assist in activities assigned by and under the direct control of the teacher.
7. Promote good behavior and manners to ensure that the children are calm and happy.
8. Instigate and play games with the children.
9. Complete any paperwork relating to playtime incidents.
10. Assist in escorting a group of children throughout the day to and from class and after school care.
11. Maintain student schedules and keep students focused on assigned tasks for a specific duration.
12. Assist in responsibility for procedures related to physical and medical needs of students.
13. Prepare and collect materials needed by the teacher in presenting a unit of work.
14. Work with individual students or small groups on activities that have been assigned by the teacher.
15. Assist individual students as directed by the teacher.
16. Supervise students during non-instructional times in the day, such as during the lunch period, when students are entering or leaving buses, while otherwise on school premises, and including duty before/during/after school.
17. Complete recordkeeping tasks as assigned by the teacher.
18. Other duties as assigned.

An individual who holds this position: Is frequently required to stand, stoop, bend and kneel. He/she may have to use therapeutic restraint and will regularly lift students. Must have both close and distance vision.
